Well,i finally did it.I finalized the deal on a John Deere 790 4wd DSCV with R-4's,a 70 loader with 54" bucket,and a 261 rear deck with 4 gauge wheel kit.Gulp,now comes the price. $12,000 for the tractor.$2400 for the loader. $2150 for the deck. Did i get ripped? I tried to talk him down but he said that was as low as he could go.The dealer is very respected,but i can't help but think i got a bad deal.I'm happy to get the tractor,but did i get a fair price? Any opinions? Thanks guys. Charles

Price in ball park for tractor and loader - paid $15,000 for 790, FWD, DSCV, mid pto, 70A loader, 54 inch bucket and R-4 tires in May 2000. Worked with 4 dealers, and all were within dollars of each other, and they knew of the competition. Hope this helps. ....

I agree with Halsey, those numbers are right on, at least here in South-Eastern Michigan. Please post a follow-up and let me know how you like it, I am trying to decide between the JD790 and Kubota L3000 as we speak. Have fun. Paul ....

Sounds like you did OK by standards here in the Rockies. I've heard of the tractor being a few hundred less....but out here the loader goes for more than you paid. Don't know about the deck. The 790 sure is a nice machine. Congratulations on your new tractor! ....

ditto... 14,800 here in NH w/calcium filled R4's & rear ballast box - no rear deck... sounds like a conspiracy, cartel, or something like that! ....

Charles, forget about the price. I haven't paid any attention to what others are paying now that I have my tractor. I'm sure somebody has gotten a better deal but I like mine so looking back won't help. You got a really nice tractor for a reasonable price so go enjoy it. You will get your money back on work saved and fun. Congratulations. ....
